Do You Really Want to Go to Heaven?

IMG_4188

If you were to ask most people if they want to go to Heaven, the majority would respond with an astounding, “YES!” However, most people are not going to Heaven, nor do they really want to. The bible tells us in Matthew 7:13,“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”

Many of us say we desire Heaven, yet we don’t desire God or anything that has to do with God. We have NO spiritual appetite whatsoever! We hardly study our bible and when the Word of God is spoken there is an attitude of annoyance or defiance exemplified by us. Communing with the Lord is so foreign because the only time we pray is when it is time to eat. Attending worship service is a hit and miss. We get more excited about an earthly concert by a secular entertainer than we do about worshipping the Almighty God. When we do go to worship, we project an attitude of disrespect and lack of reverence.  We’re disengaged, we hardly open up our mouths to sing praises to God, and we’re distracted by our phones or iPads.

Our interest in God is minimal.

We’d rather indulge in things that feed our flesh and carnal desires. Our idea of a good time has nothing to do with Christian fellowship, caring for the sick and needy, or spreading the Word of God. We’d rather watch television; listen to carnal music, party, drink, and do what WE WANT rather than what GOD WANTS us to do. Yet, when someone asks us, “Do you really want to go to Heaven?” We immediately, proudly, and assuredly say, “YES!” Who are we fooling? If we do not desire God, than we do not truly desire Heaven.

What we must understand is this: Heaven is going to be filled with every godly thing there is! Heaven is going to be spiritual OVERLOAD! If we don’t like spiritual things, we aren’t going to like Heaven.  Every creature and being in Heaven will worship, glorify, and praise God for ever and EVER!

Revelation 5:11 says, “Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain to receive power and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

Heaven is not going to be filled with people who accidentally got placed there. Heaven is going to be filled with people who actually WANT TO BE THERE and who have intentionally prepared themselves to be there. God makes no mistakes. If we want to make it to Heaven we must live in such a way that says to God… “I want to make it in.” No obedience, equals no Heaven!

“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious; sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”-Galatians 5:19-21

Many of us want the reward of Heaven, but do not want to do what it takes to prepare for Heaven. Preparation for Heaven involves obeying the commandments of God. Many of us don’t even know the commandments of God because we haven’t taken the time to find out what they are. Or many of us know the commandments but choose not to obey them. Some of us have fooled ourselves into thinking that we can fake our love for God. FALSE.

God sees right through us! A lot of us are modern day Pharisees (Matt 23:25-27). We quote scriptures, appear to be good Christians and people, but internally our hearts are wicked and corrupt. We’re deceitful, we’re arrogant, we’re prideful, we’re faithless, we’re jealous, we’re sexually impure, we’re liars, we’re mischievous, and we’re living double lives. We make a practice of sin, with no ounce of shame. Then we think God is going to go ahead and give us a free pass into Heaven. NO IMPURE thing or person will be in Heaven. Period. Point. Blank.  If we miss Heaven it will be no one’s fault but our own.  Matthew 5:8 says, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.”

God does not want anyone to perish but wants every to turn to Him (2 Peter 3:9-14). However, God is not going to make us desire Him or obey Him. The choice is ours. God has been so gracious and merciful to us. He has given us chance after chance, time after time. His love calls out and His mercy continually pours out! He offered His precious Son for the sins of the world. That fact alone should compel us to obey the gospel through water baptism (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:15-16, 1, 2 Thess 1:7-9), seek to live every day for God and not ourselves (Col 3:1-6), and repent with a pure and honest heart when we sin (1 John 1:6-9). If we don’t do these things, we won’t make it to Heaven.

So in this moment, ask yourself, “Do I really want to make it to Heaven?” God knows that answer and so do you. If you want to know what you truly want, desire and believe in, all you have to do is take a look at your life.  Your heart, your behavior and your actions will scream louder than your words ever can. My prayer is that we may all sincerely desire and obey God, so Heaven can be our home.

With love,

“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murders, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” –Rev 22: 13-15
