It is so easy to get bogged down by the chaos of this world, the burdens of your day to day life, the struggles in your relationships, and the uncertainties of your future. As a result, peace almost seems impossible. So many of us would rather continue living a life of worry, fear, and disappointment simply because obtaining peace seems to be so difficult. However, I’m writing this blog to let you know that for every true believer and child of God, obtaining and living a life of peace is VERY possible and it does not have to be difficult. I know you’re thinking, “Ashley, yeah right. You have NO idea what I’m going through or what I’m dealing with in my life.” I may not know what you’re dealing with but I want you to know that God completely knows and understands. During this season of your life, He doesn’t want you to live in hurt, turmoil, fear, or uncertainty. He wants you to live a life of peace and complete trust in Him.

One of my favorite passages to read about peace is Philippians 4:4-7

“4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

(Before you read further in this blog I want you take the time to re-read this passage of scripture and truly meditate on the words.)

So how can we have peace in the midst of all the things we are going through? First we must realize that we cannot have peace apart from God. If we expect to have peace we must first make sure we are connected to God through obedience to the gospel of His dear Son Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:1-4, Rom 6:1-6, Acts 2:38). Secondly, obtaining peace comes from us making a CONSCIOUS DECISION to not be anxious for anything but in EVERY situation of our lives making a CHOICE to stay in constant communication with God in prayer. Paul tells us “in everything by prayer and supplication WITH thanksgiving let our requests be known to God.” This means LITERALLY every-single-thing in our lives we need to be talking to God about it. Everyday we live we need to have continual conversation of prayer going on with the Lord about ALL matters, whether big or small.

“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.”-Isaiah 26:3

I love how in the passage of Philippians, Paul does not just say pray about it, he says….“by prayer, and supplication with thanksgiving.” Supplication is defined as the act of begging or asking for something earnestly and humbly. This lets us know, that we need not to give up in our prayers! We should continually and earnestly approach God’s throne of grace in prayer with a fervent, humble, and thankful heart. Why? Because God’s word says,

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” -1 John 5:14

It lifts my spirits when the verse says, “And the peace of God which surpasses ALL understanding shall guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” If we do what verse 6 tells us, if we continue to petition to God in prayer and stay in constant communication with Him, if we choose NOT to be anxious for anything but give it to God, If we pray and meditate on God’s word, HE WILL GIVE US HIS PEACE. Isn’t that amazing? If we submit our hearts and our lives to God, His peace will fill our hearts.

“Peace I leave you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”-John 14:27

You know the beautiful thing about God’s peace is that it will do just what verse 6 says. It will GUARD our hearts. Did you know that God’s peace has the ability to protect your heart and mind? It has the power to shield you from the attacks of the enemy Satan. It will protect and fight for you when the troubles of life attempt to attack you. It will keep your spirit calm, assured, and forever believing in the power and love of your Heavenly Father. That’s not all! God’s peace surpasses ALL human understanding and logic. You see, when we have the peace of God, World War III could literally be going on in our lives and it will not shake us! To the world looking from the outside in, it’s not going to make any human sense to them as to why we can be calm and rejoice in the midst of difficulty. They will not understand why we can still have hope and trust in God in the midst of losing a job, experiencing a financial crisis, losing a loved one, dealing with health issues, or any other hardship or difficulty. You see God’s peace is so powerful, so amazing..it can calm us in the midst of the most ravaging storm of life! Glory to His name! When we grow in God and grow in peace..we will get to the point where we can say, “I have no idea why I’m going through this or how I’m going to get through this, but that’s okay. Why? Because whatever it is, my God can handle it! He’s on the throne and He is in control.”

“Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.”-Psalm 119:165

I want to leave you with this. God is desiring to give you His peace. You just have to be willing to pray, petition, and position yourself to receive His peace. No matter what is going on in your life, I want you to remember that God is greater. NOTHING can shake Him! As a result, DO NOT allow anything in your life to shake your faith or peace in God. Put that situation, that problem, that heartache, that person, or that thought on the throne of grace in prayer. Give it to God and watch the Father’s peace fill your heart. God loves you immensely. Be Encouraged!

With love,

Ashley Moneet

  1. Wonderful, and truthful view of peace. All said is on point. Prayer and supplication is for the ability to apply into daily life. When application is done, daily living will be easy.

  2. Hallelujah!!! God is an awesome God who reigns! Yes, I total agree that I can be at peace as long as I walk with God. Continuous faith and prayer has strengthened my ties with God. I can witness to the fact that God is a good God and has resolved many conflicts in my life. I just had to learn to keep the faith, stand still, petition God, and get out of the way when God is working in my life.
