Faith It Until You Make It!

2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Recently I started at a new job that I had actually prayed for months ago. It was a job that I desired way before I even knew I would be able to get it. A job in which God has blessed me with and has shown His faithfulness in the midst of it. Amazing, right? But can I be honest for a moment?

During the first week of orientation, I was beginning to worry and question God about giving me this job. We all know starting a new job is super exciting, but it also has the potential to become stressful. Learning a new system, learning your way around, meeting new people, and learning an overall new environment can present new challenges. On top of that, just add the normal stresses of being a Registered Nurse!

I found myself questioning everything; questioning God and questioning my abilities.

Questions like, “God, are you sure I can handle this job? Lord, I don’t know if I’m fully equipped and ready to handle all of the demands of this new position? But Lord, there is so much I do not know. What if I make a mistake, or take a long time to get into the swing of things? There are people who are way smarter than me and more knowledgeable. Lord, I’m scared. I know I prayed for this job, but now I’m beginning to have second thoughts. Lord, please help me.”

As my mind raced, a scripture kept coming to the surface of my heart. “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Instantly I began to feel my blood pressure lower, my heart rate slow down and the tension in my body begin to relax. I took that moment to pray and talk to the Lord and to reflect over His Word. Ahhh….thank God for 2 Corinthians 5:7! What a beautiful reminder and scripture of encouragement it is!

“We walk by FAITH, not by sight.”

That means that every step we take in life, should not be based on what we physically see with our eyes, but be based on what we spiritually see in God’s Word. The bible says in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” If we want to increase in faith, we must saturate ourselves with and in the Word of God. God’s Word is what we should base every aspect of our lives on. As children of God we must remember that this life is more than flesh and blood.

We are in a spiritual warfare. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Yes, we may currently live IN the physical, but we live BY the spiritual.

So many times in life we allow ourselves to get caught up in the circumstances that are before our physical eyes, instead of getting caught up in the truth of what we know God’s Word to say.

We’ve all heard the saying, “Fake it until you make it!” However, I want to challenge you to do something different. “Don’t fake it, FAITH it!” You may be thinking, “Ashley, how is faith-ing different from faking something?”

When you are faking you are pretending to be something that you are not. You are in fact living in a false reality. You’re seeking to deceive others and yourself all the while you truly know that what you are faking is not who you are within or what you truly believe. On the contrast, faith-ing is the exact opposite!

Faith is not pretending, but TRULY BELIEVING in what God can do, has done, and will do! FAITH-ing is complete and total trust in God.

It’s a confidence in Him, His abilities, and His faithfulness. A life lived in faith, is a life that doesn’t pretend to believe in the power of God but truly believes in His power! Everything we do in this life should be done BY FAITH and IN FAITH. Why? Because if we expect to please God and honor Him, there is no other way we can live.

“But without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

So I want to encourage you, whatever you are dealing with or facing in your life right now, FULLY and COMPLETELY trust God. “FAITH it until you make it!”

God does not expect you to have all the answers. That’s what He’s for! He doesn’t want you to try to figure it all out on your own. Instead, He wants you to simply focus on having absolute and total faith in Him in every aspect of your life. Whether it’s your finances, your career path, your relationships, your aspirations, or your health, seek to trust Him with ALL of it! God has never failed His faithful children.

Even if circumstances in your life may seem difficult, remember difficulty does not mean God has failed you. Instead it’s a perfect opportunity for you to put your faith in the one who created you.

He loves you. Just continue to walk in faith like He has commanded you. Be encouraged!

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)
